Giving Opportunities

The mission of the Actor’s Theatre of Charlotte is to present, in an intimate environment, BOLD and INNOVATIVE new works by contemporary playwrights who share our respect for language and humanity.

The 2008 – 2009 Season marks our 20th anniversary of producing live, professional theatre in Charlotte.  In this celebratory season, ATC seeks to fill a gap for Charlotte theatre-lovers who have become accustomed to Off-Broadway style fare—without sacrificing quality.

Although the 2008 -2009 season was another record-breaking year for attendance and ticket sales, presenting new, challenging theatrical works comes with a considerable cost.

Did you know that ticket sales alone are not enough to support our mission and cover costs as only 52% of the revenue needed to produce great regional theatre comes from ticket sales?  And as a non-profit organization, we strive to increase Box Office income, rental income from our building and foundation and grant assistance, but the shortfall comes from donors like YOU!

For instance:

  • A gift of $1,000 will cover the health Insurance premium for one month
  • A gift of $700 will pay the power bill for a month
  • A gift of $300 will cover janitorial service for a month
  • A gift of $150 will cover the water bill for a month

You may also donate stock or mutual fund shares to ATC. They are a great way to support us and have excellent benefits, including:

  • Income Tax Savings - For securities you have owned for more than one year, you can take an income tax deduction for the full market value, up to 30 percent of your adjusted gross income. The excess can be carried forward for up to 5 years.
  • Capital Gain Tax Savings - Avoid capital gain taxes you would have incurred if you had sold the stock or mutual fund shares.
  • Support - Provide crucial operating support to ATC.

Donating securities is easy. Contact your Financial Advisor and reference DTC# 0221-UBS Financial Services. Please notify Actor’s Theatre of your donation, so we can easily recognize your gift. If you have questions, please call Dan Shoemaker at 704.342.2251 ext.2.

A Word on Corporate Matching Gifts – Actor’s Theatre of Charlotte applies all corporate matching gifts towards the individual donors’ gifts, which may move them into a higher giving category. Some companies provide this benefit for both current and retired employees. Please check with your company's human resources department to see if the matching gift program includes gifts to Actor’s Theatre of Charlotte.

Planned Giving

A planned gift is a way to make a significant and lasting gift. By making a bequest to the theatre, you are assuring that ATC will continue to inspire, stimulate and entertain audiences for generations to come, as well as maintain its high artistic standards.

As you consider your estate, you may want to consider giving options that benefit both you and Actor’s Theatre. A bequest may be in the form of cash, securities, real estate, tangible personal property, or other assets.  To ensure that your exact intentions are carried out, wills, codicils, and trusts should be prepared by or with the advice of your attorney and financial advisor.

Actor’s Theatre of Charlotte is a member of The Greater Charlotte Cultural Trust, a supporting foundation of the Foundation for the Carolinas.

For more information on planned giving, please contact Robert Touchstone at 704.342.2251 ext.1 or Dan Shoemaker at 704.342.2251 ext.2.
