Previews: September 19 & 20

Dripping in bloody good fun…

Winner of a 2006 OBIE for Best Playwriting

A gleefully, gruesome comedy about political terrorism. THE LIEUTENANT OF INISHMORE is a bitter, blood curdling and breathtaking farce set on the lonely Irish island of Inishmore about ‘Mad Padraic’, an Irish Liberation Army Lieutenant, and the one thing he loves more than anything else in the world, his little black cat, Wee Thomas. Plot twists and riotous humor ensue after someone runs over Wee Thomas. Was it an accident, or was Wee Thomas a political pawn in a much more dangerous game? Padraic will want to know.

LIEUTENANT OF INISHMORE contains Violent Scenes, Gunfire, Adult Content and Language. No cats were harmed in the creation of this production.

MEET THE DIRECTOR

Chip Decker was born and raised in the Green Mountains of Vermont (Yes, I like Ben & Jerry’s. No, I never went “Cow Tippin”) and has lived in Texas, North Dakota and North Carolina. Chip joined Actor’s Theatre in 1996 and became Artistic Director in 2002. In addition to acting in our productions of DARK RAPTURE, STUMPS, ZARA SPOOK & OTHER LURES, BUG and the REDUCED SHAKESPEARE’S “ABRIDGED” plays, Chip received Creative Loafing’s Best Director (Comedy) Award for our production of WONDER OF THE WORLD, as well as sharing Theatre Person of the Year honors. He also directed the popular POLISH JOKE that opened our 2005-2006 season, directed THE OLDEST PROFESSION, in our 2006-2007 season and will be directing this year’s hilarious Theatre 650 Joint, 7 SANTAS and the world premiere of the outrageous farce, SOUTHERN RAPTURE. Chip thanks the cast for their unbelievable commitment to this show and also his wife of nearly 16 years, Taffy. ADOPT A KITTY!

MEET THE CAST
Dave Blamy (James/Brendan) is extremely honored to have the opportunity to “hang around” such a gifted group of fecking misfits. Most recently he appeared as Lewis in the Actor’s Theatre production of THE SCENE. Dave has worked with several other local theatre companies, including BareBones (ORSON’S SHADOW, WOMEN WHO STEAL), CAST (OMNIUM GATHERUM and THE LATE HENRY MOSS), and Theatre Charlotte (THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK and THE HEIDI CHRONICLES). In addition to his stage credits, Dave can currently be seen in several regional and national commercials, as well as the upcoming feature film “Mandie and the Secret Tunnel” to be released in theatres this spring. Dave would like to thank ATC, Chip, and Dan for this opportunity, those of you who have chosen to support live theatre, and his family for their sacrifices and encouragement. “Daddy, your face is turning purple…like my shirt!”

Brett Gentile (Padraic) was born in the sleepy hamlet of Heerlen, Netherlands, in 1973. He served in the military, as a greens keeper, worked with the Amish for a summer, and can do an eerily accurate impression of a car alarm. He would like to thank Chip for not allowing him to think during this production of "Lietenant," and realizes he just spelled Lieutenant wrong. He would like to thank this cast for being AMAZING, and hates speaking about himself in the third person. Most importantly, he's glad his dad is OK, and would love to send a shout out to his loving wife Autumn, and their two boys, Archimedes and D'artagnan (they're dogs, not kids).

Caleb Houston Moore (Joey) is excited to be working with Actor's Theatre Charlotte on their production of THE LIEUTENANT OF INISHMORE. He recently graduated from Gardner-Webb University where he received a B.A. in Theatre Arts. At Gardner-Webb he has been seen on stage as a Demon Spirit in MEDEA, a tortured slave as Lucky in WAITING FOR GODOT, an anguished hero as Severus in MARTYR!, and a cocky defense attorney as Jim Taylor in GLORIA DEI, among other things. He has appeared on film as Milton in the small indie project ECHOES INSIDE, and made his Charlotte debut this summer as Gregory/Watchman in the Collaborative Arts production of ROMEO AND JULIET.

Kristy Morley (Mairead) is thrilled to be making her Actor's Theatre debut in THE LIEUTENANT OF INISHMORE. After a long break from the theatre, she has been privileged to be a part of SOME GIRLS and DARK PLAY at CAST and THE HEIDI CHRONICLES at Theatre Charlotte.

She is thankful to be a part of such an amazing cast and crew and to be one of "the guys". It is an incredible gift to be able to do something that makes your heart alive. Thank you to all who have made this possible, and to my amazing husband and two wild boys--you make my heart sing!

Robert Lee Simmons (Christy) is honored to work with such a talented and passionate cast and crew! He offers a very special thanks to Dan and Chip for the opportunity to be a part of this powerful team. Robert would also like to thank his family and friends for their persistent positivity. Without your help, a dream wouldn't even come close to a reality. Robert is a proud member of Carolina Actors Studio Theatre, voted 2007 Creative Loafing’s “Company of the Year”. Visit the website, NCCast.com for upcoming events.
Craig Spradley (Donny) is delighted to be in his fourth production for ATC as an actor. Regular ATC audiences may remember him as Dr. Framingham in BEYOND THERAPY, Deputy Baxter Blue in FLAMING GUNS OF THE PURPLE SAGE, and the Irish travel agent/ priest in POLISH JOKE. He also directed for ATC productions of DANCING AT LUGHNASA, FOOD CHAIN, KINDERTRANSPORT, JUNGLE ROT, CHEMISTRY OF CHANGE, THE DEVIL’S DREAM, and THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN. He was recognized by Creative Loafing Magazine in 2006 as Director of the Year for ATC's productions of TICK, TICK…BOOM!, and JOHNNY GUITAR. He is delighted to be acting again for ATC and is honored to be working with such an excellent cast. Craig lives in Mint Hill with his wife Pam and a houseful of cats (all of them alive and well!).
Ryan Stamey (Davey) is excited to be back on the Actor’s Theatre stage for THE LIEUTENANT OF INISHMORE. You may remember him tickling the ivories in THE OLDEST PROFESSION and HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH, sniffing markers in THE GREAT AMERICAN TRAILER PARK MUSICAL, as Cupid in THE EIGHT: REINDEER MONOLOGUES, or “getting sexy” in SLUT. He has performed on land and sea with Royal Caribbean, and his local acting credits include THE SHAKESPEARE STEALER at Children’s Theatre of Charlotte and PSYCHO BEACH PARTY with Barebones. Ryan’s other credits include Musical Director for both Barebones’ production of DEBBIE DOES DALLAS and Epic Arts’ production of A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S MUSICAL.
